Adult-film star Stormy Daniels on Sunday said she will “happily” testify before Congress about the $130,000 payment she received from President Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen in 2016.
“If Donald Trump has done things he shouldn’t have during his campaign, he should be impeached,” Daniels told British tabloid the Mirror. “If he has broken the law he should be arrested and treated like anyone else.”
“I’ll happily testify under oath and prove my story is true,” she added.
Daniels’s comments come days after Cohen pleaded guilty to eight criminal counts, including two campaign finance-related charges tied to his payments to Daniels and former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal. Both women were alleging affairs with Trump when Cohen facilitated the payments.
Trump’s former fixer said in court he made the payments at the direction of then-candidate Trump with the intention of influencing the 2016 election.
“I have always said that the truth is the most important thing and that is why I spoke out in the first place – so I can look my daughter in the eye and know I was honest,” Daniels said. “Now the truth is coming out and justice must be done.”
Trump has said he paid Cohen back for the payment to Daniels, fanning speculation over possible criminal activity by the president. The Justice Department traditionally stands against indicting a sitting president, but multiple public figures have brought up impeachment as a possibility.
Leaders of the Democratic Party have largely avoided the question of impeachment, claiming the issue is too divisive to tackle ahead of the November midterms.
Daniels is currently suing Trump and Cohen to void her 2016 nondisclosure agreement.
