Former Trump Organization Vice President Barbara Res on Sunday predicted that President Donald Trump will resign or make a deal during the impeachment process, rather than face possible removal because he “does a lot to save face.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry into Trump late last month after news reports revealed that a whistleblower filed a formal complaint accusing the president of soliciting foreign assistance to probe his domestic political rival. A July phone call between Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky is at the heart of the whistleblower complaint and impeachment inquiry. A partial transcript of the conversation, released by the White House, proved that Trump did urge Zelensky to probe the family of his 2020 rival former Vice President Joe Biden.
During her appearance on CNN earlier today, host Brian Stelter asked the former Trump Organization executive whether she believes the president is “unfit for office.” “I do yes,” Res responded, “but I thought that when he was running and not necessarily for the mental reasons that they talk about, but because he didn’t have the experience. Lots of different things.”
When asked by Stelter how she sees the impeachment inquiry ending, Res predicted that Trump would resign or make a deal in order to avoid being impeached.

“I think that he does a lot of things to save face,” she explained. “I could give you examples, but we don’t have time. But there are some things he can’t control and he’s not at the point where he can control this, he can’t do anything about this.”
“It would be very, very, very bad for him to be impeached,” Res added. “I don’t know that he would be found guilty, but I don’t think he wants to be impeached. I think that’s what this panic is about. My gut tells me he’ll leave office, he’ll resign, or make a deal even, depending on what comes out.”
Since the impeachment proceedings were launched, Trump and his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani have crafted numerous narratives about their innocence while asserting that they did not commit any wrongdoing.
During an appearance on Fox News on Sunday, Giuliani told host Howard Kurtz that Trump did “nothing wrong” in asking Ukraine to investigate Biden. “I mean, the fact is, the president of the United States has every right to ask countries to help us in a criminal investigation that should be undertaken,” he insisted.
Trump and Giuliani have also aggressively urged Americans to focus on a different scandal: Biden allegedly using his political position to benefit his son’s business interests. The unsubstantiated claims, which have been debunked by numerous news outlets, accuses Biden of removing a Ukraine prosecutor in 2016 to benefit his family.
