Fox News host Lisa “Kennedy” Montgomery on Wednesday claimed “we’d all be up in arms” if former President Obama did what President Trump has done with funding his proposed U.S.–Mexico border wall.
Kennedy’s comments came as she discussed Trump’s proposal to have the military work on the wall.
“That’s not the way the government works,” Kennedy said on Fox News. “You can’t just take $1 billion from this program, $1 billion from over here, and then put it toward your pet project.”
She claimed that if Obama had taken money from the U.S. defense budget and put it toward a solar company, Republicans would “all be up in arms.”
“It’s really not okay,” Kennedy said. “It’s not how the government should function.”
“If the president wasn’t able to get this funding when he had both chambers, it just goes to show what a politically toxic issue this is,” she continued.
Republicans leaders and pundits railed on Trump Wednesday after the White House dropped its demand that $5 billion for Trump’s border wall be included in a government funding bill.
The White House this week began discussing other funding options.
On Wednesday morning, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) indicated he will move a stopgap measure funding the government until Feb. 8.
Conservative commentator Ann Coulter said Wednesday that she won’t vote to reelect Trump if no progress has been made on the U.S.-Mexico border wall by 2020.
“Well, I’m not going to sugarcoat it,” conservative columnist Michelle Malkin told Fox News on Wednesday. I’m not going to spin it. I wish I could but I can’t. This is a cave. This was a blink.”
