New York democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress on Tuesday, at the age of 29. Ocasio-Cortez stunned the nation in June when she beat 10-term incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley (D) in New York’s 14th Congressional District primary; she will represent parts of the Bronx and Queens.

“I am so thankful for every single person who contributed, amplified, and worked to establish this movement,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted before the polls closed. “Never forget the hard work it took to get us here. No matter what happens, this is what it takes.” Jeva Lange
