Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said he hasn’t met an American who has seen the Senate Republicans’ healthcare bill yet, though he’s “sure the Russians have” gotten their hands on it, Bloomberg reported.
Asked Tuesday whether he has seen a copy of the legislation, McCain said he has not.
“Nor have I met any American that has,” he added, according to Bloomberg. “I’m sure the Russians have been able to hack in and gotten most of it.”
McCain is one of a number of senators growing frustrated with Senate Republican leaders’ efforts to draft the healthcare overhaul measure.
Both Democrats and Republicans in the Senate have complained that Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has crafted the bill largely behind closed doors and without the input of his fellow lawmakers.
A vote on the measure could come as soon as next week, though some Republicans have indicated that they might not be able to vote for it, because they don’t know what it entails.
McConnell said Tuesday that he hopes to unveil a discussion draft of the healthcare bill on Thursday.
McCain has been highly critical of Russia, particularly the Kremlin’s increasingly aggressive cyberattacks and hacking campaigns.
A special counsel and at least four congressional committees are currently probing the Kremlin’s efforts to meddle in the 2016 presidential election, as well as possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.
