Republican Congressman Mike Johnson on Sunday defended a bizarre tweet shared by President Donald Trump claiming that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s “teeth were falling out of her mouth.”
Pelosi on Thursday explained why she decided not to make bribery one of the articles of impeachment despite accusing Trump of the act. “This was a decision that was recommended by working together with our committee chairs, our attorneys and the rest,” the House Speaker said.
In response, GOP Congressman Mark Meadows took to Twitter to accuse Pelosi of leaving out the allegation “because it wasn’t true.” Trump on Sunday retweeted Meadows’ statement and added: “Because Nancy’s teeth were falling out of her mouth, and she didn’t have time to think!”
When asked by CNN Newsroom host Ana Cabrera hours after Trump’s tweet to comment on his remark, Johnson, a House Republican who voted against passing articles of impeachment in the Judiciary Committee, defended the president’s “very unorthodox style of messaging.”
“Minutes later he tweeted calling her ‘Crazy Nancy. Do you condone the president of the United States speaking about a woman, much less the Speaker of the House in this way?” Cabrera asked.
“The president has a very unorthodox style of messaging. It’s not the way that I talk or I would tweet,” Johnson said. “But the president is very frustrated about he’s been treated. He lashes out sometimes and I think a lot of the American people understand that.”
The congressman added: “There’s going to be an asterisk in the history books that he was the third president to be impeached in the house… so he’s frustrated about that.”

Trump continued his ongoing attacks against Democrats over the impeachment proceedings this weekend after two impeachment articles—abuse of power and obstruction of Congress—were passed by the House Judiciary Committee on Friday.
“Congressional Do Nothing Democrats are being absolutely decimated in their districts on the subject of the Impeachment Hoax,” the president tweeted on Sunday evening. “People that voted for them are literally screaming in their faces. Crazy Nancy is finding defending Shifty Schiff harder than she thought!”
According to a Fox News poll, released Sunday morning, 54 percent of Americans say Trump should be impeachment, while only 41 percent oppose the proceedings. The poll, conducted last week, found that a majority of U.S. adults believe the president abused his power in office.
The president responded to the unfavorable results in a tweet on Sunday afternoon, where he attacked the network’s polling system as “always inaccurate” and “heavily weighted toward Dems.”
