Dr. Jill Biden said the Trump administration’s Ukraine accusations against her son were absurd and appalling Saturday, saying the president is projecting and is simply “afraid to run against my husband.”

Speaking with MSNBC’s David Gura on Saturday, the wife of Democratic presidential candiate Joe Biden spoke at length about the prospects of a lengthy 2020 campaign in the coming year. She said President Donald Trump’s alleged Ukraine actions and his attacks against her son, Hunter Biden, and her husband “has shown us who [Trump] is.”

She declared that “Joe’s going to stand up to bullies…bullies like Donald Trump.”

Biden appeared to completely dismiss all accusations made by Trump against Hunter and said “any parent” would defend their children in the way she has.

“We never could have imagined it would turn into Donald Trump asking a foreign government to get involved in our elections,” Biden said Saturday. “I think it just proves that he’s afraid to run against my husband Joe Biden.”

Dr. Biden responded to a recent Iowa rally incident in which the former vice president called a man a “damn liar” during a heated exchange. Biden said that interaction proved Biden “has fire in the belly” on the campaign trail – something much needed against Trump.

Asked by Gura about Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren in reference to the issue of education, Dr. Biden responded: “I don’t listen to, actually, Senator Warren. I listen to Joe Biden and his education plan. I think Joe’s plan is the best plan out there.”

Biden has maintained her tough stance against Trump accusing her family of illegal activity in Ukraine. In November, she told the president through MSNBC “stop it, stop it, my husband is going to beat you,” she said at the time. And in May, Biden told CNN the Biden family would not take Trump’s “bait” by personally attacking Hunter and Joe.

Biden also responded to yet another question about her husband’s age, 77, saying rumors about him only choosing to serve for a single term as president if he should win had no basis in fact. “Most of [the candidates] are in their seventies, she noted.

She has consistently defended her husband by touting his “experience” versus other members of the Democratic field.

“He doesn’t need any on-the-job training…from day one, Joe can take everything,” Biden told ABC News in April.
