Michael Cohen tweeted and quickly deleted a third-person message Thursday night that confirmed his “critical” cooperation against President Trump in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election interference.
“Good for Michael Cohen for providing critical information to the #MuellerInvestigation without a cooperation agreement,” Cohen posted from his own Twitter handle. “No one should question his integrity, veracity or loyalty to his family and country over @POTUS @realdonaldtrump.”
Cohen, who pleaded guilty to fraud and campaign finance crimes last month, deleted the post within seconds, but not before it spread like wildfire across social media.
Cohen did not respond to a request for comment. A spokesman for the special counsel declined to comment.
Lanny Davis, one of Cohen’s attorneys, later took credit for his client’s since-deleted tweet.
“I wrote a Tweet congratulating Michael Cohen and sent text to him to Tweet to his much larger following — but was delayed posting myself so he posted first,” Davis tweeted. “All take a breath. I don’t control or have access to Mr. Cohen’s Twitter account. He is my client and my friend.”
Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s top lawyer in the Russia investigation, claimed Cohen is lying to Mueller’s investigators.
“He is a lawyer who lied to his client and recorded him in blatant violation of the attorney-client privilege,” Giuliani told the Daily News, referencing tapes Cohen made of private conversations with Trump. “He did it when he claimed to love his client. Imagine how he would lie once he no longer loved his client and he could reduce his time in prison.”
