President Trump will headline the event in Miami on January 3, the Miami Herald reported.
“The event will bring together Evangelicals from across the nation who support President Trump’s re-election,” the Trump campaign stated in a press release, according to the Miami Herald.
President Trump lashed out at Christianity Today Friday after the editorial went viral, tweeting “A far left magazine, or very ‘progressive,’ as some would call it, which has been doing poorly and hasn’t been involved with the Billy Graham family for many years, Christianity Today, knows nothing about reading a perfect transcript of a routine phone call and would rather have a Radical Left nonbeliever, who wants to take your religion & your guns, than Donald Trump as your President.” The magazine was founded by evangelical leader Billy Graham in 1956.
Trump also claimed that, “No President has done more for the Evangelical community, and it’s not even close.”
Trump continued to criticize the publication Friday, saying he has done more for “religion itself” than other presidents.
Christianity Today Editor in Chief Mark Galli published the editorial Thursday, calling for lawmakers to go beyond voting to impeach the president to remove him from office through an impeachment trial in the Senate.
“The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents,” wrote Galli. “That is not only a violation of the Constitution; more importantly, it is profoundly immoral.”
The editorial also called on evangelical voters to stop supporting Trump.
“To the many evangelicals who continue to support Mr. Trump in spite of his blackened moral record, we might say this: Remember who you are and whom you serve. Consider how your justification of Mr. Trump influences your witness to your Lord and Savior,” Galli wrote. “Consider what an unbelieving world will say if you continue to brush off Mr. Trump’s immoral words and behavior in the cause of political expediency.”
The editorial came after House lawmakers this week voted to impeach the president on two articles of impeachment, including abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
